When it comes to hybrid cars, they’re probably the highest selling items in the car industry today. It’s only expected, though, considering the ratings that the EPA or the Environmental Agency are giving them. What It’s All About?

But What Is It Really All About?

The EPA ratings system has always been around. In fact, at some point the ratings had to change with the introduction of hybrid cars. The EPA has mandatory fuel-economy tests that have to be carried out on all cars, old and new, sold in the United States.

These tests are conducted on about 15% of all cars. One of these tests is on fuel economy which involves city and highway cycles to see the result on what kind of usage cars have when it comes to fuel consumption. For the year 2008, these tests have changed in many ways and the EPA has revised testing methods because of the introduction of hybrid cars.

Hybrid car ratings are now calculated using a dynamometer and these results will be shown on labels that will be attached to the vehicles to show what fuel economy estimates there are per model. These ratings make it easier for the consumer to pick the most fuel-efficient hybrid car.

These days, it’s no big secret that hybrid cars are the most fuel-efficient and it’s one of the reasons why these cars are becoming more popular. But fuel efficiency is a different story with all the model cars that are coming out of the assembly line from various car manufacturers. Some of the most fuel efficient includes the Ford Focus with an EPA rating of 24 miles in the city/35 miles on the highway to the gallon, the Honda Fit with a rating of 33 miles in the city/38 miles on the highway, and the Honda Civic with 30 miles in the city/38 miles on the highway. And these ratings are more different if those cars are automatics.

It’s these easy ratings that help consumers make the right choice, helping them to pick cars that suit their lifestyles. It is exactly why the EPA conducts its tests and comes up with hybrid car ratings, which is fitting since more people are now making the switch to the hybrid car.

Tunr off the air intake tap and slowly start to add the HHO... Keep your eye on the HHO, you dont want to allow to much gas to flow, you need to maintain system pressure... As you hear in the video, the engine then settles in for another 30-40 seconds, this is the last 2 seconds of fuel being stretched out by the HHO... Then the engine note changes again into super quiet mode, the fuel has run out! WHack the HHO tap on full and thats it! Once it is happy you can then tweak the air mixture tap to get more power... HHO gas cars are making the news and one has to wonder if this type of technology can reduce our dependence on foreign oil. HHO gas car kits are available online and are claiming an increase in gas mileage up to 100%. When you do a little more research it appears that 15 – 40% seems more typical.

Air pollution is a problem today. One of the major causes of air pollution is the exhaust of cars and trucks that are powered by fossil fuels, and until just a few years ago, every car and truck on every highway in every country in the world was powered by fossil fuel. The scope of the problem is almost incomprehensible, but a serious search for alternative fuel has begun in earnest now and there some really interesting ideas floating around out there.

E85 Ethanol FlexFuel: E85 is the alternative fuel that is being promoted as the best thing since sliced bread, but you need to take a closer look. E85 is a combination of 85% ethanol (derived from corn) and 15% gasoline. The problem is the fuel mileage. Mileage on the highway drops from about 31 miles per gallon using regular unleaded gasoline to a sad 23 miles per gallon using E85, for the same vehicle. This one isn’t
likely to be the answer to the emissions problem.

Grass as fuel: There have been a great many studies done and experiments conducted about producing large quantities of ethanol fuel for cars from grass. Ethanol is well known as having been produced from corn, but it has also been produced from switch grass. Fast-growing switch grass grows abundantly in the U.S., Canada, South America, and Africa, and the results of the studies and experiments are very positive.

Saltwater as fuel: This is a very interesting concept. There are a great many hurdles to overcome here, but it has been discovered that, under the right conditions, saltwater actually burns. This was proven by John Kanzius quite by accident. Kanzius is 63 years old and a former broadcast engineer. Like I said, there are a lot of problems between getting saltwater to burn and putting it in the fuel tanks of automobiles, but it is an idea that is being pursued.

This is a little home project I am doing. I am attempting to take a regular mountain bike and convert it to a gas powered bicycle. Once that is complete I will convert the gas engine to run on Hydrogen. Then we install a HHO on demand system and the final product is a mountain bike that runs on water. ***UPDATE (April 2010)*** The motor finally ceased. Unfortunately I cannot find this style motor with a separate oil injection system. typical 2 strokes require Gas/Oil combo. I built this and it didn't produce enough gas so I added another one inside this same cell. With the 2 combined I still don't have enough gas (pulling less than 6 amps, probably 4 amps.) So I need more electrolyte. Checked my mileage and it did not change. A friend of mine did gain 2 mpg by putting 2oz of Acetone in 10 gal of fuel. First tank he noticed nothing, 2nd and 3rd showed the improvements.
