Gas Saving Tips
With petrol price inflation showing no signs of stopping any time soon, the subject of saving Gasoline has become important for motorists and car owners. Here are some basic techniques that will help you conserve petrol and maximize your petrol mileage:
Plan and combine your trips. Avoid areas with heavy traffic congestion, and try to take short routes to your destination. Try to combine several trips into one instead of making several different trips, since every single start of an engine consumes more petrol.
Try to refuel early in the morning or late at night. Gas contracts and becomes denser during low temperatures, and you will end up getting more for your money, as opposed to refueling when the climate is hot, where petrol tends to expand and fill more space with less density.
Drive more efficiently. Unneeded swerves create friction and wind resistance, which stresses the engine and makes it use more petrol for power. Adjust your driving way for maximum fuel efficiency, such as accelerating before going up a hill, not WHILE you’re going up the hill. Anticipate the traffic and apply slow steady acceleration and braking. Maintain a constant speed. If you drive a manual don’t keep the vehicle in too low of a gear. High revs equals more fuel usage.
Try to avoid using the car itself as much as possible. If your destination is only a couple of blocks away and you’re not in a hurry, you can just ride a bike or walk instead of using your car. This will not only save fuel but will also do wonders for the environment as well as improve your health.
Choose the right car. When buying a new car examine the cars rated fuel efficiency. Smaller cars weigh less and would need a smaller engine which most of the time have better gas mileage. Having a manual transmission is better. Also consider selling your cars for a more fuel efficient one.
Remove excess weight in your cars, and in your tummy
The more weight the cars has the more work the engine needs to do.
Service Vehicle Regularly. Dirty air filter will rob you of gas mileage. Regular oil changes are also important. Dirty oil contains sludge and particles that increase friction in the engine and requires more power to run. This is also true of transmissions and differentials, both manual and automatic. Always check your tire pressure. It’s best to check it prior to driving.
Turn off what you can. Turning off things that put a load on your engine will give you a better mileage. Consider shutting off the air conditioner, opening the windows and enjoying the breeze. It may be a tad warmer, but at lower speeds you’ll save fuel. That said, at higher speeds the A/C may be more efficient than the wind resistance from open windows and sunroof.
Convert your car to run partly on HHO. It’s easy, in fact I made one for my Toyota Cressida.
