Your hybrid car’s environment-friendly features lie in its engine. They are a combination of a gas engine and an electric motor that assists a car as it accelerates, slows down and even when it stops. Throughout all these basic actions, the hybrid car engine plays a major role so that the least amount of gas is used and cleaner emissions achieved.

Breaking It Down

Because of the hybrid car’s gas-electric engine, it can run both on gas and electricity. A gas-powered car has a fuel tank and it is this tank that supplies the engine with the gasoline it needs to run. The engine then turns a transmission which is what it essentially behind the turning of wheels.

An electric car has a set of batteries that provides power to an electric motor. In this case, it is the electric motor that turns the transmission that turns the wheels.
Although mileage is something that gas-powered cars have been covering with great efficiency in later years, there is still the issue of air pollution, which is something a hybrid car is a solution to.

Since it doesn’t run on gas alone, hybrid motor almost doesn’t produce any pollution at all. But an electric car can only go so far before having to be charged again. Now, by combining these two functions into one, a hybrid car engine attempts to increase mileage while reducing emissions of a gas-powered car and also reducing the use of large amounts of fuel. And to make up for the electric motor having to be charged, it is now left to the gas-powered engine and transmission to charge the cells in the batteries found in a hybrid electric vehicle. It’s a simple solution that has had great and positive effects with respect to fuel economy and eco-friendliness.

Cutting Costs

The hybrid car engine is known to help keep carbon dioxide emissions down and therefore it helps to improve our environmental situation by keeping pollution levels at bay and much lower. But most importantly (to average consumers), hybrid cars can save you money gas and maintenance costs. The engines of these cars are quite small and easy to manage so they last for a very long time and are quite durable.

Considering that many car manufacturers offer free parts replacements on hybrid models, this is probably the best purchase that you can make when considering what car to buy.
There is also the added tax break that the US government has promised to all owners of new hybrid vehicles purchased after January 1 2006.

Both manufacturers and consumers have finally found a way to save the environment as well as the economy. It is perhaps one of the most overlooked technologies in the world but a growing awareness of these vehicles will eventually lead to a future of more hybrid electric vehicles on city streets and highways.

This is quite interesting using what they call HH2 gas, this company is working on using water to power cars or weld things. Currently they have a test vehicle which runs as a hybrid with water and fuel but they say they can run exclusively on water alone... While the technology may not be as unique or breakthrough as the reporter and company spokesman claim (it seems to be based on an electrolytic process commonly known as "Brown's Gas."), it's still a great story to watch, and then do some fun follow-up research on. I wish there was some more info about this but for now this video will do. Hopefully we can see this technology in service sooner then later.

This past Thursday, the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid made its driving debut on a closed road in Monterey California, just days prior to its appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. After being shipped over from Germany by plane, engineers handed the keys of the new 918 Spyder Hybrid to Porsche AG Design Chief Michael Mauer. The car drove under its own power which comes from the mid mounted 3.4 liter V8 out of the RS Spyder as well as in all electric mode which powers just the front wheels. The 918 Spyder prototype combines high-tech racing features and electro-mobility to offer a fascinating range of qualities: An emission level of just 70 grams CO2 per kilometre on fuel consumption of three litres/100 kilometres (equal to 94 mpg imp) truly outstanding even for an ultra-compact city car, on the one hand, combined with the performance of a super sports car and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 320 km/h (198 mph) plus, and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT, on the other.

This is a run-up of my home built turbocharger turbojet engine. Long, but maybe of some interest to other engine builders. It is quite old now and dated somewhat and I now know far more about jet engines than I did then. Please go easy on me guys... It is my first video! I would like to issue a challenge to all fellow Do it Yourself Turbojet engine builders and brushless electric R/C park flyer hobbiests/manufacturers out there. Please comment and discuss the feasibility of mounting a small "outrunner" style permanent magnet brushless electric motor to the compressor side of this and similar engines. I realize that shaft harmonics and bearing limitations will play a very significant role in whether or not such a motor/generator combination would hang together at 140000 RPM or more. Of course, associated power electronics with the ability to switch from starter motor to DC generator would need to be designed as well to efficiently (relatively speaking) produce electricity at these ultra high speeds. Such a device would mimic some of the hybrid turbocharger or "electrically assisted turbochargers" that have been developed by Garrett and others in recent years. These have been designed, developed and built to reduce "turbo lag" and recover wasted energy in the form of electricity with the intention of supplementing the charging system in vehicles.
