SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – February 10, 2009 – XP Vehicles, one of the first U.S. Department of Energy, Section 136 AVTM loan applicants, received notification that their application has been considered substantially complete and is currently in the final phase of the DOE’s evaluation of their application to build “the electric vehicle for the mainstream market”. The company is committed to supporting the White House stimulus program with skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs in at least three locations. The company’s headquarters are in San Francisco, CA with development offices poised to be in the Detroit Metropolitan Areas and manufacturing in the Western United States.
“The XP Vehicles Mini-Utility Vehicle (MUV) “Rover” will be a safe, affordable, four passenger vehicle with a 100-plus mile per charge range on the base vehicle and an optional auxiliary power system for extended range”, said Scott Redmond, XP Vehicles Founder; “The company uses proprietary design, power array and pressure-membrane materials to significantly reduce the gross weight of the finished vehicle to less than 1/3 the weight of a standard Toyota Prius. ”

This is quite interesting using what they call HH2 gas, this company is working on using water to power cars or weld things. Currently they have a test vehicle which runs as a hybrid with water and fuel but they say they can run exclusively on water alone... While the technology may not be as unique or breakthrough as the reporter and company spokesman claim (it seems to be based on an electrolytic process commonly known as "Brown's Gas."), it's still a great story to watch, and then do some fun follow-up research on. I wish there was some more info about this but for now this video will do. Hopefully we can see this technology in service sooner then later.

This past Thursday, the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid made its driving debut on a closed road in Monterey California, just days prior to its appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. After being shipped over from Germany by plane, engineers handed the keys of the new 918 Spyder Hybrid to Porsche AG Design Chief Michael Mauer. The car drove under its own power which comes from the mid mounted 3.4 liter V8 out of the RS Spyder as well as in all electric mode which powers just the front wheels. The 918 Spyder prototype combines high-tech racing features and electro-mobility to offer a fascinating range of qualities: An emission level of just 70 grams CO2 per kilometre on fuel consumption of three litres/100 kilometres (equal to 94 mpg imp) truly outstanding even for an ultra-compact city car, on the one hand, combined with the performance of a super sports car and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 320 km/h (198 mph) plus, and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT, on the other.

This is a run-up of my home built turbocharger turbojet engine. Long, but maybe of some interest to other engine builders. It is quite old now and dated somewhat and I now know far more about jet engines than I did then. Please go easy on me guys... It is my first video! I would like to issue a challenge to all fellow Do it Yourself Turbojet engine builders and brushless electric R/C park flyer hobbiests/manufacturers out there. Please comment and discuss the feasibility of mounting a small "outrunner" style permanent magnet brushless electric motor to the compressor side of this and similar engines. I realize that shaft harmonics and bearing limitations will play a very significant role in whether or not such a motor/generator combination would hang together at 140000 RPM or more. Of course, associated power electronics with the ability to switch from starter motor to DC generator would need to be designed as well to efficiently (relatively speaking) produce electricity at these ultra high speeds. Such a device would mimic some of the hybrid turbocharger or "electrically assisted turbochargers" that have been developed by Garrett and others in recent years. These have been designed, developed and built to reduce "turbo lag" and recover wasted energy in the form of electricity with the intention of supplementing the charging system in vehicles.
