There’s a lot of hype lately over using hydrogen fuel cells for your vehicle. If you want to build one, then you need to review some facts before you get started.

So there you are. You have your materials. You’ve done a bit of research if you are putting it together separately. You either researched online, and now you’re ready to build your hydrogen fuel cell for your car.

Here is the enclosure being made to be permanently installed in my 1998 Nissan Altima 2.4Liter Engine Compartment. Took me a couple of hours to throw the parts together, just wanted to make sure everything was in tight so there was no room for vibration loosening things up. Please take note of the placement of the HHO-Cell, right above the exhaust header. That is why if you also notice, we installed a galvanized heat shield right below the enclosure. In 1996, Stan Meyer gave oral testimony before the court demonstrating the WFC Fuel Cell "Mode of Operability" by using the Voltage Intensifier Circuit (VIC) to produce voltage of opposite polarity to separate and disassociate the water molecule into its component gases, hydrogen & oxygen. Why are Hydrogen Gas Savers all the rage?

While most people (including yours truly) are looking for tips to save gas you will most likely come across information about using a hydrogen gas saver system. But what exactly do these systems do. A short answer is that hydrogen gas savers are designed to give an additional power-up to your existing fuel injection to maximize your gas mileage.

These Systems Can Extract Oxygen and Hydrogen

The idea is to create HHO Gas which is seperating the hydrogen from the oxygen creating a powerful gas. When the cells are warmed they can draw between 2.4 and 2.9 amps per cell. Thus creating better gas mileage, better torque, decreased emissions and a cleaner burn inside the engine reducing deposits and general wear.

You can also refer to these devices as hydrogen generators or HHO booster devices, these hydrogen gas savers are based upon simple electrolysis of water. For the most part these systems require an electrolyte be added to assist in the creation of electricity. Hydrogen gas savers have been in production for many years now but are now getting more exposure due to the increase in oil, gas prices and the slagging economy in the USA.

One such example of a hydrogen gas saver in my local backyard if from a guy named Larry Thrasher which came up with is own gas saving device. While there are many gas saver manuals floating around the web, none of them cover how to convert water for gas or how to run your car on water.

The best manual I found so far is called Water4Gas and the author Ozzie Freedom has clearly demonistrated his passion for letting all of us know about converting your gas engines to run HHO gas or hydrogen. Rough synopsis: 1st test setup, removed all metering jets from gasoline carb, routed hho into normal gasoline input, routed crank case vent to manifold vacuum. covered carb intake. The carb intake was allowing hho to escape, and too much air in which leaned out the hho mix. The amount of injected hho could only handle the amount of air coming in from the crank case. If I had more hho I would have had to open the carb up at higher rpm. Running hho through the carb worked but not great, it was too leaky and too restrictive to flow much. PROBLEMS: hho back filled the crank case, which would be fine if you allows turn the engine spark off and purged the system before starting it. I didn't once and the hho in crank case was set off from a lean condition. Luckily I was wearing my body armor otherwise I would have a pretty good mark on my side. The oil filler cap was shot out deflecting off my side, and went 60' across the street. How to Make Potassium Chlorate from Bleach and sodium-free salt. Warning: This produces small amounts of chlorine gas, this should be done outside or in a fumehood. Potassium chlorate is a useful oxidizer and small amounts can be easily made using household chemicals. Start by boiling a large quantity of household laundry bleach, at least half a liter, until crystals start to precipitate. Immediately take it off heating and let it cool. As it cools make a saturated solution of potassium chloride. Potassium chloride is sold as a "sodium-free" salt substitute. Now once the bleach is cooled, measure out an equal volume of potassium chloride solution and pour into the boiled bleach solution but do not mix in the crystals. Stir up the mixture and eventually potassium chlorate crystals will precipitate out. What's happening is the sodium hypochlorite in the bleach is disproportionating to form sodium chloride and sodium chlorate. Adding the potassium chloride exchanges the ions and precipitates out potassium chlorate. The boiling is required for this reaction to work; you can't simply let the bleach evaporate.

This is an example of a hydrogen gas saver that electrolyzes water and injects the resulting hydrogen and oxygen into the vehicle’s intake. The result in an increase in gas mileage, torque, and with the benefits of decreased emissions.

These devices can be refered to as hydrogen generators, hydrogen boosters or HHO devices as well. These hydrogen gas savers are based upon simple electrolysis of water meaning splitting the hydrogen from the oxygen. This is not new technology, in actuality these hydrogen gas saver has actually been around for years, most noteably a device from Stan Meyers in the early 80′s whcih he demonstrated by running a dune buggy on nothing buy water using his Hydrogen gas saver type engine.

Now because of the current rise in gasoline prices there have been a flood of products to the market that claim to be hydrogen gas savers. Now I will mention a few products that have been well tested and are recommended by all of us here at hho-gas.org.

First off there are E-Books available that fully document how to create your own hydrogen gas saver unit. (We actually used the following guide for our own device)

- Water4Gas is highly recommended. The author Ozzie Freedom has extensive knowledge about these kits and will show you the very best and safest way to add one to your car.

If you don’t want to create a hydrogen gas saver yourself, your in luck because there are a few units available to purchase. One such unit we bought was from Punch HHO systems. We used the 1.0 model and installing was simple enough for our mechanichs. If you don’t have qualified auto repair experience it may be best to seek one out.

Here are a couple of good videos that show first how massive amounts of hydrogen can be produced from water and second what this looks like under the hood. With gasoline prices the way they are, many people are taking it into their own hands to save gas now rather than waiting for the Big 6 automakers or oil companies to get around to it. We show 3 ways to make nitric acid based on two different chemical approaches both of which can be done using easily accessible materials. Warning: The procedures in this video produce large quantities of toxic gases and deal with highly corrosive acids. All work must be performed in a fume hood with proper safety equipment. And all apparatus must be glass to withstand the acids. Chemically, nitric acid is made by bubbling nitrogen dioxide into water. So the objective in this approach is to generate nitrogen dioxide. This can be done by reacting hydrochloric acid, a nitrate salt and copper. Around 80grams of sodium nitrate, over 30 grams of copper and 100mL of hydrochloric acid (37% 12M) are the quantities needed. The exact amount isn't critical. For usable concentrations, the amount of water being converted should be small, around 20-50mL. Any source of nitrate is usable including potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate and even nitrate-based fertilizers. You will see, from a birds eye view, the gas being produced in a solid stainless steel container; one that can be put under a strong vaccum. At startup, notice that the gas is being produced in the center of the cell. It then starts producing in adjacent tubes as current moves towards the positive outer tube. For this to happen, your tubes need to be properly aligned North and South. That is, the tops of each tube must be magnetic North, and the bottoms must be magnetic South (the tubes contain "some" magnetism. Think of the tube as a magnet. If your alignment is off on a tube, there will be little to no gas production around that tube. You can test your tubes for N & S by putting a needle on a thread and magnetizing the tip of the needle (N or S). Hang the thread over the tube, just barely clearing the surface, and rock each end of the tube under the needle. It will start to swing as you rock. One end will swing more than the other. The surface area and the distance between the tubes plays a big factor in your gas production. The closer the spacing, the less resistance there will be from tube to tube, thus more current can flow, thus more gas can be produced. Adding electrolites to the water lowers the resistance even more, wich causes it to produce more gas. We add Sodium Hydroxide in small amounts, a little at a time, and monitor the current (amperage). Ohms Law is working here, not rocket science, but it does require some experimenting. The cell runing in the video is using 15 amps. I have run as much as 60 amps on it. But my 60 amp alternator can not handle that for long periods unless it can be kept cool. I have not provide all of the answers for you here, but I do hope I have stired your interest. I recently saw a video: www.youtube.com where it was demostrated that some iron-enriched foods actually contain enough elemental iron to be magnetic. I wanted to see more of this, so I did the experiment myself, and sure enough - even the cereal I had for breakfast was magnetic! In this video, you'll see floating magnetic Bran Flakes, a free-standing magnetic Bran Flake demonstration, and finally, the actual magnetic iron material extracted from the cereal and shown under high magnification. This sort of iron looks similar to the kind of black iron you would collect by passing a strong magnet through ordinary soil. After a bit of reseach, it turns out that this "reduced iron" will dissolve in your stomach's hydrochloric acid, at least to some degree. It can be then absorbed into your bloodstream for bodily processes, although not as efficiently as iron compounds such as ferrous fumarate, iron sulfate, "chelated" iron/amino acid compounds, or colloidal iron found naturally in plants/non-processed foods. So why THIS type of iron in cereal? Well apparently, ionic types of iron such iron sulfate (usually seen in vitamin pills, etc.) can actually speed-up spoilage of food, where metallic (elemental) iron doesn't. When our 12 volt DC power source is connected to the cell, the electrical pressure causes current to flow from one tube to another; negative to positive. A magnetic field is created around the tubes. You can see it drawing the tiny bubbles down towards the bottom of the cell. They then cycle back to the top, between the tubes. The outside tube has the most influence on the bubbles moving in a downward direction. The magnetic flux movement is from North to South on the outside and South to North on the inside of the tubes. Electrolysis takes place on the surface of the tubes. Therefore, surface area on the tubes plays a part in the quantity of HHO that can be produced. When DC voltage is applied to the tubes it causes a chemical reaction in the water molecules. The water molecules H+ ions become attracted to the Negative Cathode in the cell, and OH- ions become attracted to the Positive Anode. The byproduct is HH gas on the Cathode tube and O gas on the Anode tube. In other words, the release of the positive hydrogen and negative oxygen gas. If you could get down to eye level with the waters surface, you would see tiny bubbles jumping out of the water and popping. Looks similar to those caused by pouring carbonated water.
