The answer to who invented the electric water heater begins around 1850 with an experiment that was created in which both water and bath, on the underneath side, were heated by gas jets. An Englishman Benjamin Maughan, however in 1868 invented the first instant water heater called “The Geyser”, a device where the water was heated as it flowed into the bath. They were known to be quite dangerous.

Maughn’s invention influenced the designs of a Norwegian mechanical engineer by the name of Edwin Ruud, who immigrated to Pittsburg. Ruud who invented the electric water heater (automatic storage) in 1889, founded the Ruud Manufacturing Company, which is still in operation today, and pioneered the advancement of water heaters, in both the residential and commercial market.

The Water Heater is still sometimes referred to as a geyser in the UK. Other terms include: an electric water boiler, electric dispensing pot, or electric water urn.

There are various kinds of water heaters. The most common water heaters are the storage water heaters. Instantaneous (tankless) water heaters are newer on the market, and newer still, solar water heaters.

Storage Tank Water Heaters:

This is typically the kind of water heater you saw growing up, the big white tank often beside the furnace. Tank type water heaters come in different varieties – gas, oil & electric. This refers to the type of burner used to heat the water. Energy efficiencies between the different types of burners on the tank water heaters can differ greatly. In this tank, cold water is used to fill the tank, and an element, usually near the top & bottom inside the tank is used to heat it. In between the inside tank and the outer shell is often insulation to help keep the water hot, without the elements having to do all of the work.

Instantaneous Water Heaters:

Instantaneous Water Heaters, also called Tankless Water Heaters are just that. They do not have a tank, and therefore are thought to be more energy efficient. Sometimes they are called an in-line water heater, as it only heats the water it needs as it passes through, and therefore energy is not wasted by heating extra water all day that is not in use.

These particular Water Heaters are rapidly gaining in popularity and will soon become the standard. Often, one main Tankless Water Heater will be installed near the furnace, and supplemental smaller Tankless Water Heaters will be situated in tactical spots, such as a far reaching bathrooms, etc to be located right where the water is being used. This strategy saves water as well as energy, thereby making this option one of the most efficient, as well as saving on space.

Solar Water Heaters:

If you’re fortunate enough to live someplace sunny most of the year around, a solar powered water heater may be an option for you. Solar collectors are typically installed on the exterior of the building on the roof or nearby. If insufficient sunlight or at night, an automatic sensor turns off and keeps the remaining water from cooling.

For colder climates, you’re not out of luck. The evacuated tube collector solar powered water heater is an alternate type of solar water heater, smaller and deemed more efficient, also roof mounted, is said to work very well in cold climates.

True to its name, the evacuated tube collector solar powered water heater has a row of glass tubes which contain heat conducting rods. Inside the heating rods is antifreeze, which is in a circulating loop. The heat is captured and transferred into a heat exchanger. The result is excellent, with very low heat loss due to the fact that once the inside coating has absorbed solar radiation, the air has been evacuated from the glass tubes to create a vacuum.

My next door neighbor, who is quite the snoop, gave me an updated report on the hydrogen generator he had built and installed on his tractor. Gasoline prices continue to rise, and no one seems to know when they will stop. More and more people are looking for cars and other vehicles that don’t use gasoline, or that increase their miles per gallon, but it’s not easy to find solutions that solve all the problems. That means that the vehicle’s emissions are diluted by the Brown’s gas, and overall the car produces few pollutants. Too, in addition to keeping the air cleaner, the system will keep you engine cleaner by reducing the amount of dirty petroleum products moving through it.

Because cars that run on water are environmentally sound, there may be tax breaks for you at the local, state, or federal level.

This is a boring clip of the Hydrogen fuel cell I made. I intend on using a bank of 12 in an array to run my car. The hydrogen will be fed into the air intake of the car and will mix with the air to run the car either more efficiently or with no fossil fuel at all. Yet to be seen. Once water is poured into the water tank at the back of the car, the newly invented energy generator takes out the hydrogen from the water, releases electrons and finally generates electrical power. Why are Hydrogen Gas Savers all the rage?

While most people (including yours truly) are looking for tips to save gas you will most likely come across information about using a hydrogen gas saver system. But what exactly do these systems do. A short answer is that hydrogen gas savers are designed to give an additional power-up to your existing fuel injection to maximize your gas mileage.

These Systems Can Extract Oxygen and Hydrogen

The idea is to create HHO Gas which is seperating the hydrogen from the oxygen creating a powerful gas. When the cells are warmed they can draw between 2.4 and 2.9 amps per cell. Thus creating better gas mileage, better torque, decreased emissions and a cleaner burn inside the engine reducing deposits and general wear.

You can also refer to these devices as hydrogen generators or HHO booster devices, these hydrogen gas savers are based upon simple electrolysis of water. For the most part these systems require an electrolyte be added to assist in the creation of electricity. Hydrogen gas savers have been in production for many years now but are now getting more exposure due to the increase in oil, gas prices and the slagging economy in the USA.

One such example of a hydrogen gas saver in my local backyard if from a guy named Larry Thrasher which came up with is own gas saving device. In July 2008 he was on the local news channels where they covered him creating a system that took his 1996 Cadillac from 19 to 53mpg. He also has a 1996 Toyota that gets 71mpg. How to Add your Own Hydrogen Gas Saver to your Car

While there are many gas saver manuals floating around the web, none of them cover how to convert water for gas or how to run your car on water.

The best manual I found so far is called Water4Gas and the author Ozzie Freedom has clearly demonistrated his passion for letting all of us know about converting your gas engines to run HHO gas or hydrogen. It is worth looking into to start saving on gas, lowering your gas bill, and to start burning cleaner emissions.

Both release lots of energy when they burn, which is of course what makes them suitable as fuels. The hydrogen oxygen burn though is particularly fascinating as it only produces water as an 'exhaust', further it produces very little water! Indeed to fill a bottle with hydrogen and oxygen you only need to turn about 0.5g of water into H2 and O2, and of course when you burn it you only recreate that half gram of water. To make life even more interesting, to actually do the electrolysis I use a 12 volt Li-ion polymer battery, very similar to those used in most laptops today, simply so folk can visualise in a very simple way the energy content in these everyday objects. Alright, it's been a couple of years since I posted this, and I've read some of the comments, so I think it's time to post some counterpoints to the most common statements. Some of you have mentioned putting the fire out with the lid. That was the first thing we did (before the video). The lid warped immediately and did nothing to smother the fire. You can see the guy holding the lid with tongs because it was still too hot to touch with bare hands from covering the fire moments before. Others have mentioned baking soda as the solution. We tried that, as you can see at the beginning of the video. As it turns out, baking soda is flammable at that high of a temperature. We would have needed a tremendous amount of it to put this fire out, and all we had was the one large box. Call the fire department? Turn your sound on and you'll hear the phone call. The video ends when I went to move my car so the fire department could get in. Don't put water on a grease fire: It's important to note WHY you've been told this since childhood. Water boils at a much lower temperature than oil burns, so it will splash oil everywhere when used on a grease fire. The beginning of this video shows the 5HP engine that replaced the original 3.5HP engine on the black go-cart. The 3.5HP blew at least three piston rods before it was finally put out of service. The 5HP came off an air compressor that sat outside for some time with the spark plug missing. Water made its way into the combustion chamber and rusted the gas valve open. This is an example of a hydrogen gas saver that electrolyzes water and injects the resulting hydrogen and oxygen into the vehicle’s intake. The result in an increase in gas mileage, torque, and with the benefits of decreased emissions.

These devices can be refered to as hydrogen generators, hydrogen boosters or HHO devices as well. These hydrogen gas savers are based upon simple electrolysis of water meaning splitting the hydrogen from the oxygen. This is not new technology, in actuality these hydrogen gas saver has actually been around for years, most noteably a device from Stan Meyers in the early 80′s whcih he demonstrated by running a dune buggy on nothing buy water using his Hydrogen gas saver type engine.

We used the 1.0 model and installing was simple enough for our mechanichs. If you don’t have qualified auto repair experience it may be best to seek one out.

UPDATE: I have been working the bugs out of our hydrogen system on the Ford Escort. Just this last Thursday morning I finished making modifications and since then everything has been working well. The system automatically pumps water in and automatically drains water from the water trap while on the road. The car is running smoothly and has a lot of power. We will soon start building kits and will continue to test our designs. Recently, I had to ask myself what is gasoline? Gasoline is a blend of hydrocarbons C11H24 - C7H16. So, gasoline is just hydrogen with molecular bonds to carbon atoms and it produces about an equal amount of water as it burns. Hydrogen is clean burning because it does not have any carbon in it and it only produces water vapor when it burns. I have been concerned about the effects of water vapor on the engine and exhaust system however every hydrocarbon fuel that we burn already produces water vapor and unburned hydrocarbon emissions. So, I have stopped worrying and continue to drive 370 miles each week with the hydrogen generators turned on. I have also discovered that sugar has everything that we need to make gasoline and other hydrocarbons like propane C3H8, Butane C4H10, or hexane C6H12.
