Why are Hydrogen Gas Savers all the rage?

While most people (including yours truly) are looking for tips to save gas you will most likely come across information about using a hydrogen gas saver system. But what exactly do these systems do. A short answer is that hydrogen gas savers are designed to give an additional power-up to your existing fuel injection to maximize your gas mileage.

These Systems Can Extract Oxygen and Hydrogen

The idea is to create HHO Gas which is seperating the hydrogen from the oxygen creating a powerful gas. When the cells are warmed they can draw between 2.4 and 2.9 amps per cell. Thus creating better gas mileage, better torque, decreased emissions and a cleaner burn inside the engine reducing deposits and general wear.

You can also refer to these devices as hydrogen generators or HHO booster devices, these hydrogen gas savers are based upon simple electrolysis of water. For the most part these systems require an electrolyte be added to assist in the creation of electricity. Hydrogen gas savers have been in production for many years now but are now getting more exposure due to the increase in oil, gas prices and the slagging economy in the USA.

One such example of a hydrogen gas saver in my local backyard if from a guy named Larry Thrasher which came up with is own gas saving device. In July 2008 he was on the local news channels where they covered him creating a system that took his 1996 Cadillac from 19 to 53mpg. He also has a 1996 Toyota that gets 71mpg. How to Add your Own Hydrogen Gas Saver to your Car

While there are many gas saver manuals floating around the web, none of them cover how to convert water for gas or how to run your car on water.

The best manual I found so far is called Water4Gas and the author Ozzie Freedom has clearly demonistrated his passion for letting all of us know about converting your gas engines to run HHO gas or hydrogen. It is worth looking into to start saving on gas, lowering your gas bill, and to start burning cleaner emissions.

This video is a continuation of the first half of "The Real Mario-Kart" which is a collection of clips of me go-carting at my friend Darlene's farm. The beginning of this video shows the 5HP engine that replaced the original 3.5HP engine on the black go-cart. The 3.5HP blew at least three piston rods before it was finally put out of service. The 5HP came off an air compressor that sat outside for some time with the spark plug missing. Water made its way into the combustion chamber and rusted the gas valve open. The valve was pounded down with a hammer and then the engine was rebuilt. Amazingly the engine starts and still does, but it drinks oil.

How to Test if Fertilizer Has Nitrates in it

In this video we show you how to test if a fertilizer has nitrates rather than urea or ammonia as its nitrogen source. The idea is quit simple, in a strongly acidic solution the nitrates will behave like nitric acid and dissolve copper metal releasing nitrogen dioxide gas. Looking for this gas is a strong indication for the presence of nitrates. WARNING: these reactions produce toxic nitrogen dioxide gas, this must be performed outside or in a fume hood. To perform the test, simply mix some of your fertilizer with water to dissolve the nitrates and then mix it with hydrochloric acid. Then add in some copper metal. The reaction is very slow to start up unless you heat it. A nerdy way of heating it on the spot without using a heater is to add a small ball of aluminum metal, don't use too much or it will go out of control. Stir the mixture as the aluminum dissolves to distribute the heat evenly. After the mixture is heated, place a glass container over the mixture to keep the gases in. If nitrogen dioxide is forming the distinctive brown nitrogen dioxide will fill the container. And that's how you can tell if there are nitrates in your fertilizer. If you want to test for ammonia (in case you have ammonium nitrate) just mix some fertilizer with half as much sodium hydroxide and add a little water to cover it. Have you ever seen a Mini Ardun Flathead?? Ron Bement of Denver, CO has built an Offy, a Flathead, and is currently working on this Ardun. The engine measures about 7" long and all components have been made on his CNC machines. Ron is progressing very well on this miniature Ardun Ford flathead mill. He's finished the heads, water pumps, oil pump, and most of the other internal pieces. He expects to have the block finished in a few weeks. It's hard to imagine what is involved in building one of these engines from scratch. Ron thinks this will make 28 hp on methanol when it's finished!! That's a lot of hp out of such a tiny engine. It will have a Hillborn injection on it... like the one on his miniature Offy. Ron machined copies of the famous Hillborn injectors. These are the smallest known copies in the world and have greatly increased throttle response on the Offy engine over the previous 4 carbs. Finding something to make the jet out of was very difficult. With the negative changes in the economy and rapid increase of gasoline prices the use of a supplemental hydrogen system in your vehicle can greatly increase the fuel economy. Other benefits of using such a system include an increase in horsepower and a great reduction in harmful pollutants and emissions that damage our environment and shorten the life of your engine.

WHY does it work?
A supplemental hydrogen system is just that, supplemental to the use of gasoline in your vehicle. Use of a system is not an attempt to run your vehicle on hydroxy gas exclusively. Instead, it is a way to more efficiently burn the gasoline that you are already using. How? By more fully atomizing the gasoline molecules and burning them as a vapor instead of the larger droplets they would normally be.

You’re probably wondering why the combustion process wouldn’t already be efficient since it was designed by top engineers at auto manufacturers, and why supplemental hydrogen isn’t incorporated into our vehicles today. The answer is found in a question…When a new vehicle is designed, who is it designed for? EVERYONE. When new cars are made, they have to be marketable not just on the basis of fuel economy, but also on the basis of horsepower, torque, and user intervention. So you might be seeking the highest MPG rating while someone else will see horsepower as a major buying factor. Even the person seeking highest MPG might not purchase a supplemental hydrogen vehicle if he/she would have to regularly check and refill not only the gasoline but also the water and electrolyte used to produce the hydroxy gas. This is where user intervention becomes a factor. You see? Every car design is a COMPROMISE. It has to be marketable to a large demographic of drivers.

So, by using a supplemental hydrogen system we are simply taking a vehicle that’s compromised and inefficient and bringing it up to a higher level of efficient combustion. This benefit can then be directed to either increased horsepower or better fuel economy, based on the user’s preference.

How does it work?

A supplemental hydrogen system consists of a fuel pre-heater assembly, an electrolyzer, and an ECU (vehicle computer) compensation method. When the system is used with fuel additives such as xylene and acetone, along with positive driving habits, it can produce dramatic results in fuel economy, sometimes over 50%. Horsepower is also drastically increased if the air/fuel ratio is not modified, because hydroxy gas is very combustable, much like nitrous oxide used in racing cars.

Fuel Pre-heater: A fuel preheater is a simple device, usually assembled of a heat conducting metal such as brass, copper, nickel or aluminum. It is placed on the radiator hose of the vehicle and wrapped in a thermal blanket. It uses otherwise wasted heat to preheat the gasoline before it reaches the fuel injection manifold or carburetor. This helps expand the dense gasoline molecules, making them closer to full vaporization temperature by the time the fuel reaches the combustion chamber.

Electrolyzer: This is the heart of the system. An electrolyzer uses the process of electrolysis to change water into hydroxy gas. (hydrogen and oxygen gas) It consists of electrodes that produce hydroxy gas when submerged in water made conductive with electrolyte, such as potassium hydroxide. Electrical current from the vehicle’s battery is then applied. A substancial amount of hydroxy gas must be produced by an electrolyzer to make the combustion process more efficient. The standard of gas production is measured in liters per minute. (LPM) 1 LPM is considered baseline for a functional supplemental hydrogen electrolyzer. The hydroxy gas output of the electrolyzer is routed to the vehicle’s air intake and vacuum intake manifold. The smaller molecules of the hydroxy gas strike the larger pre-heated gasoline molecules, breaking down the covalent bonds even further and atomizing the gasoline, while adding a combustable catalyst.

ECU Compensation method: If an electrolyzer is used in a vehicle and nothing more is installed, little or no gains in combustion efficiency/MPG will be seen. This is because the ECU of the vehicle will detect more oxygen in the exhaust via the oxygen sensors. More oxygen in the exhaust usually tells the ECU your vehicle the fuel mixture is running lean, with too much air being mixed into it via the air intake. It then compensates by adding more gasoline to the mixture, and reducing the air induction, which defeats the gains of the supplemental hydrogen system. The combustion of hydroxy gas produces a large increase in oxygen in the exhaust, therefore to see gains you must compensate for this. Compensation methods currently being employed are:

1.E.F.I.E. electronic fuel injection enhancer: This device manipulates the voltages relayed to the ECU via the oxygen sensors. By telling the ECU the fuel mixture is rich, it will tell the fuel injectors to inject less gasoline and use more hydroxy. It can be purchased online by numerous retailers, or you can build your own. We prefer Punch Sysytem Kits.

Emission/pollution reduction
Emissions and air pollution from your vehicle are greatly reduced while using supplemental hydrogen because more of your gasoline is being completely used up and not being burned in your catalytic converter. The biproduct of burning hydroxy gas is heated water vapor, which steam cleans the inside of your engine and removes damaging carbon build ups and performance robbing sludge. Using a supplemental hydrogen system helps the environment twice by decreasing fuel dependency while also reducing pollutants.

Brown’s Gas Conversion Kits

HHO gas car kits are the latest innovation to increase gas mileage, increase power and improve your car or trucks emissions. Your car will not be totally dependent on water but will be a hybrid of sorts by utilizing water as a catalyst once it is broken down to HHO also known as browns gas or hydroxy. By using HHO gas you could expect to see and increase in gas mileage of 20 – 50% some are claiming more. This is not new technology but is starting to get rediscovered as gas and diesel prices continue to increase and there is no end in sight.

How is HHO gas utilized in your gas or diesel engine. When you convert your car to burn on water you are converting water to a gas that your vehicles engine can use whether it be a gas or diesel engine. Some even refer to this as hydrogen on demand or a hydrogen fuel cell. Through a process of electrolysis water that is in a sealed container under your hood is converted to hydroxy also known as browns gas or HHO gas. This gas is then introduced to the airflow in the intake manifold using your engines vacuum. This gas is then mixed with the gasoline providing better gas mileage.

The process is so amazingly simple and the parts to build the system can be found around home or in your shop. The homemade hydrogen generator or water fuel cell is easy to build. What you are looking at is a sealed quart size container, electrical wiring, baking soda, an automotive fuse and some vacuum hose. There is a handful of other parts but if you are wanting to make such a system it can be made for under $100 per vehicle! There is often plenty of room under most hoods to put a fuel cell or many for better efficiency. Larger engines may require or benefit more with extra cells. What is nice is it requires very little modification to your vehicle and can be removed within minutes and no one would even notice you had it installed. An HHO fuel saver should give you better gas mileage.

There are forums online that talk about HHO gas or browns gas technology as an alternative energy to reduce car emissions, increase gas mileage and improve power. HHO devices for cars are starting to get noticed. This technology has even been brought up in the news for improving gas mileage so there are people who are using it with success to increase gas mileage.

This is quite interesting using what they call HH2 gas, this company is working on using water to power cars or weld things. Currently they have a test vehicle which runs as a hybrid with water and fuel but they say they can run exclusively on water alone... While the technology may not be as unique or breakthrough as the reporter and company spokesman claim (it seems to be based on an electrolytic process commonly known as "Brown's Gas."), it's still a great story to watch, and then do some fun follow-up research on. I wish there was some more info about this but for now this video will do. Hopefully we can see this technology in service sooner then later.

I do not consider myself to be a huge environmentalist but, I am proud to say that I saved my allowance to join Greenpeace in the 80s. As an adult, I now realize the importance of having an awareness about our impact on the earth and sharing this with our children.

We may not be able to save our planet from every black cloud, but it is important to be responsible and respectful to the earth on a daily basis.

There are simple steps that we can all take to help live in a more green, earth friendly way. We do not have to change our lives drastically and with a few adjustments, nothing will seem to be different (for the exception of the land fills not being as full, our energy and water bills not being quite as high, and our knowing that we are doing our part in living a conscious and environmentally friendly way).

The following is a list of simple steps that families can take to living green. It is not a complete list, but a starting point. The important thing here is that parents and caregivers discuss these steps and ENFORCE them. If parents teach children to live green at an early age, children will naturally respect the earth.

I know there are many more things we can do, so I encourage you to please send us your great tips too! The earth thanks you and so do we!

Steps to Living Green:

1. Turn off the lights and the TV when you are not in the room. Better yet, turn the TV off all together and grab a book!

2. Get energy efficient appliances. This will help save on your electric bills as well as helping the environment!

3. Change out all of your old incandescent light bulbs with the new energy efficient florescent bulbs. They not only save you money, but time- you do not need to replace them as often and there is less waste from needing fewer bulbs!

4. There is one thing that is better than these new energy saving light bulbs and that is natural light. If it is light out, open the shades and catch some rays! Natural sun light helps with seasonal depression and vitamin D!

5. Recycle all of your plastic and glass bottles and aluminum cans. We have been hearing this for years, so do it! Every little bit counts.

6. Get a water purifying filtration system, or just a container with a filter like a Britta and STOP using those plastic water bottles!

7. Buy a kitchen timer and put it next to each shower in your home. Take the 4 minute shower. One minute for shampoo, one for soap, one for conditioner and one to rinse. Shave with the water off in between soaping and rinsing. This is HUGE in helping with water consumption, especially if you have more than one child taking showers. Better yet, take showers with more than one person at a time and still keep it to minutes! Make it a game!

8. Turn the water off while brushing teeth and while washing hands. After a quick initial rinse, turn the water off during lather and turn on again for a thorough rinse to finish up. For extra dirty hands, use a washcloth to remove dirt, not running water!

9. Recycle toilet paper and towel rolls. Better yet, if your kids are in preschool or grade school, save up the rolls and give them to the school. Kids can always make great art or science projects using paper towel and toilet paper rolls!

10. Fix leaky faucets as soon as the start to leak. Do not procrastinate on this kind of stuff. It not only costs you money, but wastes way more water than you realize.

11. Switch your household cleaners, dish soaps and hand soaps to environmentally friendly ones. The chemicals in bleaches and harsh chemicals are not only bad for earth, they are bad for you! Think cancer and fertility issues, not that much fun.

12. Every time that you go to the store to stock up on supplies for the house or office, look for recycled or green products. This way, you will know you are at least trying to be green!

13. Organic is the way to go. Buy from local farmers if you can and buy most, if not all of your produce from the organic section. Again, this not only benefits the earth, but your body does not need all of those pesticides and chemicals- more cancer and infertility, yuck!

14. Even shampoos and cosmetics companies are starting to go green. And these products are actually good! Give them a try!

15. Be open to trying new things that are green. The more open you are, the sooner you will find out that this whole green movement is kind of fun and definitely makes you feel like you are being responsible! What could feel better than that?

Saving on gas is quite a task these days, as so many must travel to places of work and to obtain higher education. The high prices paid at the pump aren’t necessary, however, as there are indeed a few ways that consumers can save money by following a few gas guidelines and tips.

The most common way to save gas is to not use things such air conditioning or heating in a vehicle, as this puts further strain on the engine that leads to higher gas consumption. Interestingly, this isn’t always the case on highways or interstate travel. High drag caused by lowered windows will reduce a car’s ability to be aerodynamic- and thus lower its gas efficiency. Therefore it’s best to use air conditioning at higher speeds.

It’s no wonder that older folk seem to have to get gas less than others. This might be due to the fact that they travel less, but also because the elderly tend to drive slower on average. Driving slow and responsibly will increase fuel mileage, as it helps keep unnecessary strain on the engine. Slow acceleration and braking habits also help to give vehicle owners increased fuel efficiency.

Even though car manuals sometimes claim that cars should be run on the highest grades of fuel, this is not true. Cars that can accept low grades of fuel should, since this gives cheaper prices for just about the same amount of mileage. Purchasing gas with a higher octane rating may help improve mileage, but not enough to actually justify the price difference.

Two other options help dictate gas mileage: weight and tire inflation. Weight, for instance, might be putting extra drag on one’s engine, or even causing a car to be less aerodynamic via a lopsided vehicle. Excess weight can also put more strain on tires, which should always be checked for accurate inflation. A tire that is not properly inflated will always decrease gas mileage considerably.

As a last note, those who live in colder climates or experience cold climates at winter should keep in mind that warming up a car shouldn’t be a lengthy process. While it is nice to warm up a car for 10 minutes in order to get in warm for entry, this wastes gas and is inefficient. Cars should be warmed up for about a minute or two, and then it’s perfectly fine to start driving in colder weather.

Final Thoughts

In the end, getting around the high gas price hikes isn’t going to be easy. But being economical and thrifty on the subject can save consumers quite a bit of money over the years. Until alternative fuels can be found, and renewable “green” sources of energy may be used, following the previously mentioned tips becomes important for both our environment and wallets.

For the year 2008, these tests have changed in many ways and the EPA has revised testing methods because of the introduction of hybrid cars.

Hybrid car ratings are now calculated using a dynamometer and these results will be shown on labels that will be attached to the vehicles to show what fuel economy estimates there are per model. These ratings make it easier for the consumer to pick the most fuel-efficient hybrid car.

These days, it’s no big secret that hybrid cars are the most fuel-efficient and it’s one of the reasons why these cars are becoming more popular. But fuel efficiency is a different story with all the model cars that are coming out of the assembly line from various car manufacturers. Some of the most fuel efficient includes the Ford Focus with an EPA rating of 24 miles in the city/35 miles on the highway to the gallon, the Honda Fit with a rating of 33 miles in the city/38 miles on the highway, and the Honda Civic with 30 miles in the city/38 miles on the highway. This is quite interesting using what they call HH2 gas, this company is working on using water to power cars or weld things. Currently they have a test vehicle which runs as a hybrid with water and fuel but they say they can run exclusively on water alone... While the technology may not be as unique or breakthrough as the reporter and company spokesman claim (it seems to be based on an electrolytic process commonly known as "Brown's Gas."), it's still a great story to watch, and then do some fun follow-up research on. HHO gas cars are making the news and one has to wonder if this type of technology can reduce our dependence on foreign oil. HHO gas car kits are available online and are claiming an increase in gas mileage up to 100%. When you do a little more research it appears that 15 – 40% seems more typical.

You could always purchase a hybrid car but these cars are not cheap costing thousands of dollars.

With oil consumption increasing globally and through 2009 it is expected that consumption in the U.S. should increase about 0.8 percent as younger drivers come on board. As third word countries oil consumption increases it will put a further burden on current supplies. The good news is that current supplies will continue to output more barrels per day and add to the current supply so overall this effect will be that supplies will not continue to get any tighter. It is expected that current oil and gas prices will be somewhat stable through 2009. Even with gasoline prices remaining about the same it still put s burden on many drivers who have a limited budget. This will leave many drivers looking for alternative ways to increase gas mileage or cut back on driving and investigate other methods of improving gas mileage such as HHO gas car kits.

With current government figures showing that about 60% of our crude is imported even a minimal increase in gas mileage of 15% would be enough to tip the scales and reduce foreign oil imports.
