Ok so you have just heard of HHO gas or ‘running your car using water’ right? Actually HHO gas has been around for a few decades but is just now becoming more mainstream due to rising gas prices and more demand on alternative fuel sources.
So the natural first question to answer is: What is HHO?
A: Wikipedia defines HHO or Oxyhydrogen as: a mixture of hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) gases, typically in a 2:1 molar ratio, the same proportion as water.This gaseous mixture is used for torches for the processing of refractory materials.
Now what are the benefits of HHO gas?
A: HHO greatly increase the fuel efficiency of cars in which it is used. HHO gas is created through a simple process of electrolysis - the car does not run just on HHO but rather a hybrid of gasoline and HHO which powers the car. HHO has been shown to increase fuel efficiency by as much as 60% in some cases.
What are some common uses of HHO Gas?
A: HHO can be used in torches which are used ion the manufacturing processes of refractory material. Limelights are another application of HHO where light is produced by heating lime. HHO can be explosive and for this reason, limelights have for the most part been phased out in favor of electric lighting.
What are some current methods HHO gas is being used on cars?
A: HHO has been pressed into service helping cars to run on water. There are many manuals on doing this conversion available online which can give you step by step instructions in making your own HHO kits and installing them in your vehicle. When talking about the automotive applications of HHO it is often called Brown gas.
Ok this all sounds great but is HHO danerous?
A: It is NOT DANGEROUS as long as you follow the guidelines and do everything as you’re supposed to. You will not BLOW UP as the HHO that you produce in the fuel cell is extracted and then used on demand, so there is no chance of it blowing up. Also nothing is pressurized, there are no pressurized containers filled with hydrogen fuel so you don’t have to worry about anything going off like a bomb. If we were to store the HHO and pressurize the container then there would be cause for concern as a spark of any sort would set it off - the way WE do it, there is NO CHANCE OF AN EXPLOSION. I hope that puts a few minds at rest for those who think hydrogen = danger - it does not.

A: The best resource we have found to date that tells you step by step on how to create your own is Run Your Car On Water.
The PWM Motor Controller is used with a HHO system. It regulates how much voltage is applied to your fuel cell in your car and it will control the amount of Hydrogen produced by the HHO system.

MUST READ THIS - Electrolysis of water into Hydrogen & Oxygen. Increase your MPG via the unused power of your Alternator, while you drive.
These are the first hydrogen cells we made last year. We started with the Joe Cell concept and modified it for Electrolysis. The 4 parts of this video show you the inner works of the gas production. You will see, from a birds eye view, the gas being produced in a solid stainless steel container; one that can be put under a strong vaccum. At startup, notice that the gas is being produced in the center of the cell. It then starts producing in adjacent tubes as current moves towards the positive outer tube. For this to happen, your tubes need to be properly aligned North and South. That is, the tops of each tube must be magnetic North, and the bottoms must be magnetic South (the tubes contain "some" magnetism. Think of the tube as a magnet. If your alignment is off on a tube, there will be little to no gas production around that tube. You can test your tubes for N & S by putting a needle on a thread and magnetizing the tip of the needle (N or S). Hang the thread over the tube, just barely clearing the surface, and rock each end of the tube under the needle. It will start to swing as you rock. One end will swing more than the other. Mark them accordingly and put your tubes together with the like marks facing the same direction. It works.
Part 2 shows more hydrogen production, and several different size cells, with different tube configurations. Please read the important details I added to the right of each video.
Later, in Part 3, you will see gas being produced in a glass jar. Pay attention to what influence the magnetic field has on the hydrogen bubbles.
Part 4 is about exploding a balloon filled with HHO gas (I love that part).
I would like to point out that if you build your cell out of stainless steel, as we did, it will withstand Flashback explosions. Plastic can blow up.
I would also like to point out another advantage of an all stainless steel unit. Electrolysis causes heat. The longer the cell runs, the hotter it gets, the hotter it gets, the more current you're going to get. Your plastic and rubber units will get soft and may explode. If your cell is under a vaccume, it will implode. However, your steel unit will take a lickin and keep on tickin. Be smart, be safe, use metal containers.
If you want to control your current (amperage), and you do want to control it, use a DC volt PWM to regulate it. You can find 15 amp continuous to 80 amp continuous PWM's on ebay. They will pulse your DC voltage to the cell. The pulsing will also help regulate the heat. You want heat, but you need to control it. The PWM will help you do that.

Well, I took my Generator for a test to see how well the car will handle the power consumption of the generator. The test results were not what I expected. I got about 4 miles away from the house when my battery was going dead, and the alternator could not handle the generator because it's a 60 amp alternator. I quickly pulled over and disconnected the generator so I can continue on driving. What I am going to do next, is build a PWM controller for the generator, so hopefully everything will work out and I will be able to reduce the power going into the generator or just adjust the PWM so the generator itself will produce the same amount of gas but consume less power. Some more test are to be done, but if you tune in, I will show you step by step how to build a PWM fairly low cost and great power. The one I am going to build will be able to handle over 120 AMP without a problem with adjustable duty to control the power going to the generator. Stay tuned, it will take a few days before videos go up.

Just going over some concepts of pulsing the Stanley Meyer tubes with no electrolyte and straight tap water. Appears to work very well for regulating our amperage where before we had no control over the levels being administered to the hho-cell.
Spacing between the tubes is about 1/8"
Voltage is around 24VDC. Amperage varies due to pulsing of the circuit.
The tubes are still being acclimated (broken -in) so that is why you see the red-scummy water in the bath. This was most likely due to dumping all the amperage through the cell in the earlier video. Started to remove the impurities in the metal, unsure of the grade with these tubes.

This is just some thing I have been working on now for a while and thought I just thought I would share some info. The plates are Home Depot blank wall plates. There are 11 total and they are spaced with 1/16th nylon washers. The plate configuration is +nnnn-nnnn+. I'm using steam distilled water with no electro light but will be trying it with electro light soon. There is 80volts DC across the plates.
My theory is that pulsed high voltage DC is more efficient than just 12 volts DC. I think the Pochintwin videos demonstrate this quite clearly. However I have noticed that the water temp rises faster and the HHO is more power full than with 12volts and baking soda!
The reason I'm not using my PWM to drive the toroid is because the frequency that it can put out is to hi to drive such a large transformer / inductor. The magnetic field saturates and it just gets hot! So I will be modifying my PWM to run at a much lower frequency.
If your wondering were I got my toroid, I got it from a military parts surplus store.

This is an example of a hydrogen gas saver that electrolyzes water and injects the resulting hydrogen and oxygen into the vehicle’s intake. The result in an increase in gas mileage, torque, and with the benefits of decreased emissions.
These devices can be refered to as hydrogen generators, hydrogen boosters or HHO devices as well. These hydrogen gas savers are based upon simple electrolysis of water meaning splitting the hydrogen from the oxygen. This is not new technology, in actuality these hydrogen gas saver has actually been around for years, most noteably a device from Stan Meyers in the early 80’s whcih he demonstrated by running a dune buggy on nothing buy water using his Hydrogen gas saver type engine.
Now because of the current rise in gasoline prices there have been a flood of products to the market that claim to be hydrogen gas savers. Now I will mention a few products that have been well tested and are recommended by all of us here at hho-gas.org.
First off there are E-Books available that fully document how to create your own hydrogen gas saver unit. (We actually used the following guide for our own device)
- Water4Gas is highly recommended. The author Ozzie Freedom has extensive knowledge about these kits and will show you the very best and safest way to add one to your car.
If you don’t want to create a hydrogen gas saver yourself, your in luck because there are a few units available to purchase. One such unit we bought was from Punch HHO systems. We used the 1.0 model and installing was simple enough for our mechanichs. If you don’t have qualified auto repair experience it may be best to seek one out.
Here are a couple of good videos that show first how massive amounts of hydrogen can be produced from water and second what this looks like under the hood. With gasoline prices the way they are, many people are taking it into their own hands to save gas now rather than waiting for the Big 6 automakers or oil companies to get around to it. Most people just don’t know that this option is available.

This is a boring clip of the Hydrogen fuel cell I made. I intend on using a bank of 12 in an array to run my car. The hydrogen will be fed into the air intake of the car and will mix with the air to run the car either more efficiently or with no fossil fuel at all. Yet to be seen.

I have been working the bugs out of our hydrogen system on the Ford Escort. Just this last Thursday morning I finished making modifications and since then everything has been working well. The system automatically pumps water in and automatically drains water from the water trap while on the road. The car is running smoothly and has a lot of power. We will soon start building kits and will continue to test our designs. Recently, I had to ask myself what is gasoline? Gasoline is a blend of hydrocarbons C11H24 - C7H16. So, gasoline is just hydrogen with molecular bonds to carbon atoms and it produces about an equal amount of water as it burns. Hydrogen is clean burning because it does not have any carbon in it and it only produces water vapor when it burns. I have been concerned about the effects of water vapor on the engine and exhaust system however every hydrocarbon fuel that we burn already produces water vapor and unburned hydrocarbon emissions. So, I have stopped worrying and continue to drive 370 miles each week with the hydrogen generators turned on. I have also discovered that sugar has everything that we need to make gasoline and other hydrocarbons like propane C3H8, Butane C4H10, or hexane C6H12. Vinegar is C2H4O2 but remove the oxygen and you get C2H4 which is highly combustable Ethylene gas. It is all a chemistry problem with fantastic results that can power our cars when oil runs out.

Anyone who took Chemistry class and witnessed the glowing hydrogen gas in a vacuum tube is familiar with this phenomena. When waves of electromagnetic energy strike an electron in a gas, they cause the electron to jump up to a higher molecular orbital than the one it was previously in. With the negative changes in the economy and rapid increase of gasoline prices the use of a supplemental hydrogen system in your vehicle can greatly increase the fuel economy. Other benefits of using such a system include an increase in horsepower and a great reduction in harmful pollutants and emissions that damage our environment and shorten the life of your engine.
WHY does it work?
A supplemental hydrogen system is just that, supplemental to the use of gasoline in your vehicle. Use of a system is not an attempt to run your vehicle on hydroxy gas exclusively. Instead, it is a way to more efficiently burn the gasoline that you are already using. How? By more fully atomizing the gasoline molecules and burning them as a vapor instead of the larger droplets they would normally be.
You’re probably wondering why the combustion process wouldn’t already be efficient since it was designed by top engineers at auto manufacturers, and why supplemental hydrogen isn’t incorporated into our vehicles today. The answer is found in a question…When a new vehicle is designed, who is it designed for? EVERYONE. When new cars are made, they have to be marketable not just on the basis of fuel economy, but also on the basis of horsepower, torque, and user intervention. So you might be seeking the highest MPG rating while someone else will see horsepower as a major buying factor. Even the person seeking highest MPG might not purchase a supplemental hydrogen vehicle if he/she would have to regularly check and refill not only the gasoline but also the water and electrolyte used to produce the hydroxy gas. This is where user intervention becomes a factor. You see? Every car design is a COMPROMISE. It has to be marketable to a large demographic of drivers.
So, by using a supplemental hydrogen system we are simply taking a vehicle that’s compromised and inefficient and bringing it up to a higher level of efficient combustion. This benefit can then be directed to either increased horsepower or better fuel economy, based on the user’s preference.
How does it work?
A supplemental hydrogen system consists of a fuel pre-heater assembly, an electrolyzer, and an ECU (vehicle computer) compensation method. When the system is used with fuel additives such as xylene and acetone, along with positive driving habits, it can produce dramatic results in fuel economy, sometimes over 50%. Horsepower is also drastically increased if the air/fuel ratio is not modified, because hydroxy gas is very combustable, much like nitrous oxide used in racing cars.
Fuel Pre-heater: A fuel preheater is a simple device, usually assembled of a heat conducting metal such as brass, copper, nickel or aluminum. It is placed on the radiator hose of the vehicle and wrapped in a thermal blanket. It uses otherwise wasted heat to preheat the gasoline before it reaches the fuel injection manifold or carburetor. This helps expand the dense gasoline molecules, making them closer to full vaporization temperature by the time the fuel reaches the combustion chamber.
Electrolyzer: This is the heart of the system. An electrolyzer uses the process of electrolysis to change water into hydroxy gas. (hydrogen and oxygen gas) It consists of electrodes that produce hydroxy gas when submerged in water made conductive with electrolyte, such as potassium hydroxide. Electrical current from the vehicle’s battery is then applied. A substancial amount of hydroxy gas must be produced by an electrolyzer to make the combustion process more efficient. The standard of gas production is measured in liters per minute. (LPM) 1 LPM is considered baseline for a functional supplemental hydrogen electrolyzer. The hydroxy gas output of the electrolyzer is routed to the vehicle’s air intake and vacuum intake manifold. The smaller molecules of the hydroxy gas strike the larger pre-heated gasoline molecules, breaking down the covalent bonds even further and atomizing the gasoline, while adding a combustable catalyst.
ECU Compensation method: If an electrolyzer is used in a vehicle and nothing more is installed, little or no gains in combustion efficiency/MPG will be seen. This is because the ECU of the vehicle will detect more oxygen in the exhaust via the oxygen sensors. More oxygen in the exhaust usually tells the ECU your vehicle the fuel mixture is running lean, with too much air being mixed into it via the air intake. It then compensates by adding more gasoline to the mixture, and reducing the air induction, which defeats the gains of the supplemental hydrogen system. The combustion of hydroxy gas produces a large increase in oxygen in the exhaust, therefore to see gains you must compensate for this. Compensation methods currently being employed are:
1.E.F.I.E. electronic fuel injection enhancer: This device manipulates the voltages relayed to the ECU via the oxygen sensors. By telling the ECU the fuel mixture is rich, it will tell the fuel injectors to inject less gasoline and use more hydroxy. It can be purchased online by numerous retailers, or you can build your own. We prefer Punch Sysytem Kits.
Emission/pollution reduction
Emissions and air pollution from your vehicle are greatly reduced while using supplemental hydrogen because more of your gasoline is being completely used up and not being burned in your catalytic converter. The biproduct of burning hydroxy gas is heated water vapor, which steam cleans the inside of your engine and removes damaging carbon build ups and performance robbing sludge. Using a supplemental hydrogen system helps the environment twice by decreasing fuel dependency while also reducing pollutants.

I have been working the bugs out of our hydrogen system on the Ford Escort. Just this last Thursday morning I finished making modifications and since then everything has been working well. The system automatically pumps water in and automatically drains water from the water trap while on the road. The car is running smoothly and has a lot of power. We will soon start building kits and will continue to test our designs. Recently, I had to ask myself what is gasoline? Gasoline is a blend of hydrocarbons C11H24 - C7H16. So, gasoline is just hydrogen with molecular bonds to carbon atoms and it produces about an equal amount of water as it burns. Hydrogen is clean burning because it does not have any carbon in it and it only produces water vapor when it burns. I have been concerned about the effects of water vapor on the engine and exhaust system however every hydrocarbon fuel that we burn already produces water vapor and unburned hydrocarbon emissions. So, I have stopped worrying and continue to drive 370 miles each week with the hydrogen generators turned on. I have also discovered that sugar has everything that we need to make gasoline and other hydrocarbons like propane C3H8, Butane C4H10, or hexane C6H12. Vinegar is C2H4O2 but remove the oxygen and you get C2H4 which is highly combustable Ethylene gas. It is all a chemistry problem with fantastic results that can power our cars when oil runs out.
